News

March, 2011: Five Songs of Walt Whitman is premiered by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces – directed by Nathan Kreitzer at St. Anthony’s Seminary Chapel.

December, 2010: In Judah's Land will be broadcasted over more than 100 television and radio programs nationwide as part of St. Thomas University's annual Christmas Concert under the direction of Angela Broeker.

Dec. 26, 2010: Blessed Infant Savior along with Quire of Voyces Mysteries of Christmas concert will be aired on KDB Classical Music Radio.

Dec. 19 & 20, 2010:
Michael's setting of the Blessed Infant Savior will be premiered by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces – directed by Nathan Kreitzer at St. Anthony’s Seminary Chapel.

Dec. 12, 2010: Sweet Babe Carol is presented by the Indian Valley Ensemble - Sherry D. Morgan Director.  Performance viewable on YouTube HERE

Dec. 8, 2010: The BYU University Chorale performs In Judah's LandPaul Broomhead - Director.

June 15-25, 2010: VIVA ITALIA!  We're off for a 10 day concert tour of Italy, including performances at the Pantheon in Rome, St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City, Chiesa di San Francesco in Maiori, Basilica del Crocifisso on the Amalfi coast, and Chiesa di S. Maria degli Angeli alle Croci in Naples.

June, 2010: Missa Maria is slated to be sung during the High Mass in St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.

May 22 & 21, 2010: Missa Maria will be performed by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces at St. Anthony's Seminary Chapel with a newly added Introit and Credo.  Also being performed is a setting of the Appalachian Carol The Little Family, Barter, and an arrangement of the haunting spiritual Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child.

May 15, 2010: Barter is sung by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces for a masterclass with San Francisco's Chanticleer.

May 6, 2010: The Thacher Chamber Choir of Ojai, CA earned a Superior rating at the SCVA Festival for their performance of Barter.  The Choir is under the direction of Greg Haggard.  An excellent performance viewable HERE.

Jan, 2009: Michael is commissioned to arrange settings of three American folk songs

Dec. 2009: The Cherry Tree of Cumberland is performed by the Young New Yorker's Chorus under the direction of Michael Kerschner.  A truly phenomenal performance viewable on YouTube HERE

Dec. 2009: In Judah's Land is performed by the Philharmonic Chorus of Madison under the direction of Patrick Gorman.

Dec. 2009: In Judah's Land is presented by the Indian Valley Ensemble - Sherry D. Morgan Director.  Performance viewable on YouTube HERE

Dec/Jan, 2009-10: Christmas Vespers and other Carols will be programmed on Santa Barbara Public Access Channel 21 throughout the months of December and January.

Dec. 27, 2009: Christmas Vespers, Down In Yon Forest, and Sweet Babe In Twilight Shade will be aired on KDB Classical Music Radio.

Dec. 19 & 20, 2009: Michael's setting of the Christmas Vespers text will be premiered alongside three carols, Down in Yon Valley, Noel Nouvelet, and Sweet Babe by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces – directed by Nathan Kreitzer at St. Anthony’s Seminary Chapel.

Dec. 4-6 2009: The Lincoln Chamber Singers of Carthage College perform In Judah's Land at their annual Christmas Festival.  Director - Dr. Peter Dennee.

October 30, 2009: Barter will be performed at the First United Methodist Church, Santa Barbara by a 450 voice choir as part of the Westmont College Choral Festival coordinated by Dr. Michael Shasberger.

June, 2009: Michael is commissioned to write a large work based on text from the Great Vespers for chorus by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces –Nathan Kreitzer – director.

May 31st, 2009: Five Songs of William Blake will be premiered by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces – directed by Nathan Kreitzer at St. Anthony’s Seminary Chapel.

March 22, 2009VELOX, a one movement work for String Quartet, is premiered at Santa Barbara City College  Check out the video on YouTube.

Dec. 20, 2008: In Judah's Land and The Cherry Tree of Cumberland are premiered by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces – directed by Nathan Kreitzer at St. Anthony’s Seminary Chapel.

Dec. 14, 2008: Check out Adam Phillips' (my brother-in-law) latest album "Come Home", a collection of old-time hymns and gospel songs now available on ITUNES, Amazon, and CDBaby.  This excellent album features the talents of Phillips, Tom Ball, Douglass Cleg, David West, and Claudia Kiser.

Dec. 12, 2008: Michael is awarded the PhD in Composition. 

Dec. 10, 2008: It Was Not Death for mezzo-soprano and piano with text by Emily Dickinson, is premiered by  Kara Cornell and the Arts Coalition of Long Island – directed by my olde friend Michelle Whittaker.

Dec. 5, 2008: Michael's arrangement of On Christmas Day is premiered by the Adelfos Men's Ensemble at the old Santa Barbara Mission.

November, 2008: Michael is commissioned to arrange settings of two Appalachian Carols for the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces –Nathan Kreitzer – director.

September 19, 2008: Michael advanced to candidacy and will be conferred the PhD in Composition this December, 2008. 

June 12, 2008: Barter is performed at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Ireland by the Santa Barbara Concert Choir – Nathan Kreitzer – director.

June 8, 2008
: Michael’s Missa Maria and Barter will be aired on KDB Classical Music Radio throughout the month of June.

May 21, 2008: Missa Maria, Barter, and other choral works by Michael are picked up by Santa Barbara Music Publishing to be released in 2009.

May 17, 2008: Missa Maria is premiered by the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces – directed by Nathan Kreitzer at St. Anthony’s Seminary Chapel

February 3, 2008: Michael is a winner of the Pacific Chorale's 2007 Young Composer Competition.

January 9, 2008
: Michael is commissioned to write an a cappella Latin Mass for the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces –Nathan Kreitzer – director.

December 18, 2007: Michael’s arrangement of the carol Noel Nouvelet for TTBB is aired on American Public Media_s Performance Today radio program, the most listened-to daily classical music radio program in the United States, with about 1.4 million listeners on over 250 stations

November 11, 2007: Missa Magna a 9-movement work for Soli, Chorus, & Orchestra is premiered at El Montecito Presbyterian Church featuring the combined forces of Santa Barbara City College Chamber Singers, First United Methodist Choir, and El Montecito Choir and Chamber Orchestra.
